Farmhouse kitchen remodel

Farmhouse kitchen

Adding six feet to the back of a house can yield a dramatic increase in usable space. We went from a small, cramped space to a beautiful gourmet kitchen with built-in eating nook, custom cabinets, and farmhouse sink.

Thy and Tyler’s Home

This 1920s Phinney Ridge Craftsman was lovingly remodeled by its previous owner.

The new homeowners loved the house, but needed more room for their young family. To gain more space, they originally thought about expanding out, but didn’t want to sacrifice their garden. The solution was to take advantage of the unused basement.

Remodel highlights

  • Extensive custom cabinetry throughout
  • A small porch and stairwell addition
  • New second bathroom
  • Additional bedroom
  • Home office
  • Laundry room
  • Wine storage
  • Family room
  • Lowered basement floor to add ceiling height
  • Added heated floors
  • Created deep window ledges and space for built-in cabinets
  • Period millwork and custom windows

Sarah and John’s Loft

An empty loft is now a home and studio in the Union Arts Cooperative.

Cobalt used steel and concrete to achieve the minimalist and “funky” aesthetic the homeowners and architect envisioned.

  • Steel staircase
  • New kitchen and bath
  • Mezzanine with built-in storage
